You may have noticed I did not include any of the BL2's DLCs in here. The BL2 DLCs, while being tons of fun, are very self-contained and do not add much to the overarching plot, besides minor character development. BL’s “Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution” and “The Secret Armory of General Knoxx” and BL:TPS’s “Claptastic Voyage" have big effects on the overarching Borderlands story.

You also didn't include Tales from the Borderlands, which takes place after Borderlands 2 and is very much canon.

The frame narrative of BL2's TTAoDK (DLC4) does contribute to the Borderlands plotline.

It's been so long since I've played BL2. I completely forgot! Thanks for reminding me

TTAoDK is when they revealed that they had caught a Hyperion Spy, which turns out to be Athena. There's a few things here and there that mention it, I think Salvador talks about torturing the prisoner or something.

which turns out to be Athena

We meet the "Hyperion informant" in a video announcing the release of TTAoDK. It is not Athena.

edit: linked to vid

Athena was captured by Brick and Mordecai during the events of TFtB

From what I've been told and understood. The entire story of Tales From is completely Canon. Every small detail.

Can't forget about Tales From the Borderlands. Worth a play through if you haven't, and shows some more information post BL2

The team dispatches Eridians as they head deep into Elpis.

Guardians are not Eridians. They are constructs made by Eridians left behind to protect the vaults. So far as I am aware there has not yet been an encounter with an Eridian in canon and as their civilization has been destroyed they could be assumed to be extinct.

Though as they are super important to lore I imagine a few will end up having survived in some future title.

Is it not an Eridian that contacts Lil Athena and the group at the end of TPS

[–]HybridTheory1I CAN'T SAY STUFF LIKE SH*T, C*CK, OR P*SSY F*CKIN' D*CKBALLS! 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Could be wrong, but I don't think it's ever specifically stated. It could be an Eridian, but it could also be a type of Guardian.

[–]TheLardVaderSTOP DYING AT ME!! 1 point2 points  (1 child)

YeahI guess.

There's a series of echos in Eleseer in which Corporal Best describes an "alien creature" working with Zarpedon to be "the Guardian." Not a lot of real physical evidence about it either way.

Watcher does look distinctly guardian-y though and as there is no confirmed sighting of an Eridian we cannot know whether the appearance of guardians is based on that of their creators.

Aren't the creatures we meet just before The Destroyer and at the end of Pre-Sequel Eridians?

They were called "Eridian ____" in Borderlands 1

[–]marrowofbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope those are guardians. Constructs made by the Eridians to be the defenders of the vaults that were being left behind.

No love for Lady Aurelia or Timothy Lawrence?

[–]PatrollinTheMojaveBLOOD TORNADO 5 points6 points  (3 children)

If you wanted to add Tales you'd need to mention the Vault of The Traveler.

[–]Fatal1ty_93_RUS 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I wonder if Gearbox adopts that as canon material for Borderlands

[–]PatrollinTheMojaveBLOOD TORNADO 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They certainly will. Tales over preformed spectacularly and I doubt Gearbox would do something like that without reason. It'd be like if Bethesda released an official statement saying New Vegas wasn't canon. I'm hoping B3 isn't even in Pandora.

[–]Killerx09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost certainly confirmed cannon.

Thank you for this! The story is absolutely fascinating, and Handsome Jack's demise is almost Shakespearian

[–]no639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know (and my sources are a few shady videos on YouTube) Atlas initially tried to settle Pandora but then left and Dahl took it's place. It's not until the events with Tannis that Atlas comes back as Crimson Lance. This is why Dahl has essentially left since they didn't want to fight for such a barren rock as Pandora was perceived.

EDIT: grammar I guess?

This is cool. Enjoyed reading that!

Good call. TPS DLC mentions she was tracked down and brought back. I think it was by Axton and Gaige while they were dealing with another vault after BL2. Can't remember which planet. It's all in the Holodome DLC.

    [–]PatrollinTheMojaveBLOOD TORNADO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and two other spoiler things about Hyperion.

    [–]Gurrnak 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm pretty sure that in the Tannis side quest in the Caustic Caverns she explains that most of the bandits were all regular Dahl employees before they got abandoned. Was there somewhere else where it said they were criminals to begin with?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ECHO recorders that you recover for Tannis in the first Borderlands game.

    [–]Gurrnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Guess it's been a while. Maybe I should give it another play through.

    [–]ClbroschBloodwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    crawmax?

    [–]Fatal1ty_93_RUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered what would happen had Dahl not left Pandora, giving Hyperion an opportunity to prosper and flourish after Atlas was pretty much wiped out by Athena and the original Vault Hunters

    [–]chriscrux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just one thing, I'm pretty sure Athena had already left Jack's employ after defeating the Sentinel and moved in with Janey Springs. However, money problems forced her to accept a second job from Jack (aka Claptastic Voyage).

Other than that, it was a great refresher read over the story so far

[–]TheLardVaderSTOP DYING AT ME!! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bump? Is that a thing here?
